60th anniversary open day

18 July 2026

On Saturday, 18th July, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, we're celebrating 60 years of caving and underground exploration at the Ruiton Windmill in Dudley. We'd love to see you there!

There will be plenty to see and do:

  • We'll be showing award winning photos and videos of caving that our members have created (some of which have appeared in publications like National Geographic)
  • We'll be demonstrating abseiling and climbing a rope with caving gear on the outside of Ruiton Mill - we're aiming to  ascend the equivalent of the height of the Wrekin (that's 407 meters, more than 1300 feet!)
  • Try out the 'Squeeze Box' to get a taste of caving..how small a gap will you try?
  • You can get up to the top of Ruiton Mill and enjoy the spectacular views
  • Discover the history of the local limestone mines and what lies under your feet when you're walking around the area
  • Learn about caving in the UK and abroad

Here's a taster of what we got up to on our 50th anniversary open day...

How to get there

Note, access to parking is only available from Vale Street.

Hope to see you there, on Saturday, 18th July, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm
