Caving and mine exploration are activities with a risk of personal injury or death. Participants in such activities should be aware and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement. Through its association with the BCA Dudley Caving Club recognises that correct training is one way of minimising such risks and provides opportunities for training.

Phreatic Tubes

The Main Streamway in Peak Cavern, Castleton, Derbyshire

This huge phreatic tube is almost perfectly cylindrical in shape.  Note the bedding joint half way up the walls around which the solution tube initially formed.

The stream now flows in the bottom of the tube and lower down the stream is beginning to carve a trough in the bottom of the tube.

The Long Crawl in Dan Yr Ogof, South Wales

This is a body-sized phreatic tube.  Again the bedding joint half way up the walls can be clearly seen.
